The Carrey thread [ www.huffingtonpost.com/jim-carrey/the-judgment-on-vaccines_b_189777.html ] has been heavily censoring the comments of those who are pro-science, pro-vaccine. Many of our comments have been deleted after being posted, and others simply never post. As we are obeying the comment policy set forth by The Huffington Post, there is no legitimate reason for this to occur other than censorship due to the desire of the moderator(s) to present only one viewpoint, in this case, that of the anti-vaccine movement. As of now, we will be documenting this censorship in threads on this board, as well as our responses to it.

Where to start? The very latest one not to post: - kwombles See Profile I'm a Fan of kwombles permalink This comment is pending approval and won't be displayed until it is approved. Here you go: kwombles.blogspot.com/HuffPost and censorship of valid posts I warned the moderator of the Carrey thread it would get posted here (I know, I have so many readers! Ha!), so here it is: Unjustified censorship continues unabated here. I wonder why that is? All the pro-science people keep having posts disappear or just never make it through the moderator and yet the "rules" for commenting aren't being broken. Huh. Any reason why Huff is trying to silence us. I have emailed the following letter to the general information and inquiries email: "I get that Huff is left-leaning, and that's fine, since I lean left as well, but the moderators are allowing posters who are engaging in personal attacks and outright lies to post but removing many of the anti- anti-vaccine posts that are effectively rebutting the misinformation. I've posted my removed comments to my own blog before and noted the censorship. I will continue to do so. You need to let the pro-science people's voices be heard. If you can't put objective moderators on the board who won't engage in censorship, there are people who will make sure the public at large knows you don't adhere to your own standards." Moderator, you gonna censor this one? It will go right to my blog and to all on my email contact list. See blog for remainder. If you guys knew so much, then you would know that everyopne is missing posts. We just don't whine about it.

I've never attacked anyone until you guys came on board. If you want to have a parent to parent talk to help our children then that's fine. But to attack every single post no matter who writes it speaks volumes. I've tried facts. You guys just talk around them. What's your agenda? Don't have one? Wrong. Everybody has one. Just because you guys don't have any hope doesn't mean the rest of us can't. A strong person never gives up, especially when it's our kids at stake.

I too have had an ongoing problem with censorship on the Jim Carrey blog. It is the reason I am not posting to that blog any longer. I told the moderators that I had finally had enough. I will probably follow up with a complaint to HuffPo. I have probably posted to 100 different blogs and stories on HuffPo and I have never been censored like this, regardless of the view that I was expressing. On the Carrey blog I have had several posts censored that were purely informational, not directly addressing any other poster, and not negative in any way.
I sent several mesages to the moderators that looked a lot like the ones kwombles posted above. They had very little effect. For me, the problem was MUCH worse in the early evening, between about 5 pm and midnight. I strongly suspect that there is a single biased moderator working the evening shift who is intentionally censoring.
I noticed a similar time correlation for scrubbed comments by vaccine critics. On Huff, when I see a post that is clearly over the line I send a comment addressed to the moderator explaining the violation and then I flag the comment. On every other Huff blog or article, the moderators have always been quick to delete the offending post...except in the evenings on the Carrey blog.
One of the final straws was when I saw another member's post get scrubbed in the morning (rightly so because it was off topic) and then it magically reappeared about 5:00 pm. It can't get much more obvious than that.

Dugmaze, you are attacking now. This particular thread is about the moderation on that blog. You immediately started in with "We just don't whine about it." Now you are asking off topic questions about agendas and the content of other people's posts to that blog. Then you talk about others not having hope (written to two mothers on Mother's Day).
The irony is that on the Carrey blog I tried writing dozens of posts like the one I am writing right now and they were almost always censored. Often, the more reasonable comment I wrote were MORE LIKELY to be censored.

Moderation is always heinous on the Op-Ed pieces. Try disagreeing even politely with Queen Huffington. ;D
It's extra super duper double secret heinous on autism/vaccine Op-Ed pieces, and just mildly less so on *general news* autism/vaccine posts.
I know everyone is frustrated about the moderation in the Carrey thread, but from my experience - this has been the least moderated autism/vaccine piece I've ever experienced on HuffPo. I'm shocked that it is still open for comment - but I think I'll attribute it to the harsh criticism that Arianna is getting around the net on the subject of pseudoscience whilst she is testifying before congress on *New Media*.

You will not be allowed to throw around accusations here. Our agenda is clear - and it's been stated repeatedly. We are sick and tired of the anti-vax crowd fear mongering the general public with pseudoscience. Herd immunity is at stake here. No one here is from "bigPharma" - we are concerned citizens that don't want to see children die or become disabled needlessly from preventable childhood diseases. It's really just that simple. It's not nuanced, it's incredibly black and white. We can have reasonable debate about the varicella, rotavirus, HPV and annual flu shots. I'll even give the HepB a chance to be debated. With Hib meningitis deaths, whooping cough deaths and the rise of measles outbreaks because of vaccine avoidance - most of the other vaccines should not be debated in my estimation. There are scientists here, and there are parents that have children on the spectrum just as you do. You will be respectful - or you will be gone.

Dug, what you see as attacks are called rebuttals, using science or reason to point out why the person's post was inaccurate. I have hope and plenty of it, which you'd know if you were really reading the posts (or my blog) I wrote. Instead you have aligned yourself with Hydra and Mofmars and decided their perception of the world is accurate. I will respond to EVERY post by them that is appropriate to do so; that isn't attacking; it is standing counterpoint.
If you which to engage in civil discourse, that's fine and you're welcome. But please note, continued attacks at Huff Post will NOT go unresponded to and will effect your welcome here.

My last two posts were trashed - never made it out of moderation - one was a response to dugmaze and one was to Hydra8. I guess it's time to switch back to BalletMom - or maybe pull out the third login - MessyTruth. It's ridiculous that one has to have so many logins just to speak their mind on a site that wants to become the next iteration of MSM. What the hell are they so afraid of? I have all these logons because during the primaries, if you defended Clinton you'd go into purgatory or during the last Gaza/Israeli skirmish anyone with a profile like my MNmommy one was auto-moderated. Even if there were no hot words in the post. Isn't it bizarre that HuffPo auto-moderates their most prolific and respected members? On news stories even. I'm going to take the time today to write my one Senator about this - I get moderating offensive things, or things that break the TOS - but I'll never understand moderating the truth. In my frustration I just posted this:

Dugmaze, we formed this site in order to have a place to post our point of view, uncensored, in order to post references for ourselves and others, and in order to stand counterpoint to the McCarthy movement. What we did not create this forum for, is for use as an additional place to debate/counter the woo with your group. Not that we are opposed to debate, but hey, you guys put out a lot of woo, and our time is better spent on putting out and debating actual fact. What Kwombles said stands, and I will add this. You are either on board with educating the public with the opposite point of view from your own, or you are not. If you are not, say so now, and we can terminate your account without further discourse.

I know I'm not the only one wondering if Kirby's going to want to dip his paws in that stupid "investigative journalism" fund they're setting up.
If they can't report facts, they ought to at least let the comments stand. I've had mine deleted or not let through mod, too.

Almost every post I made yesterday was either never approved or disappeared after being up for a short time.
Arianna Huffington should be ashamed of herself for allowing such one-sided moderation to occur.
